Wastewater treatment

UAB "Telšių vandenys" operates 13 wastewater treatment plants, 34 wastewater lifting plants, 141.9 km of wastewater networks and Telšiai city surface (rain) wastewater networks.

The Project of the 1st phase, 1st stage of the Venta-Lielupė river basin investment programme was completed on 31 December 2010. While implementing the project, three contracting agreements with the value of LTL 44,428,999.00 (VAT excl.) were signed. The project involved the reconstruction of Telšiai city wastewater treatment plants: mechanical control buildings for blowers and sludge dewatering, septic wastewater reception station, service water pump-house, covered sludge storage site, bioreactor, reception chamber, septic wastewater pumping-house and local wastewater pumping-house were constructed. Following the reconstruction of Telšiai city wastewater treatment plant, nitrogen and phosphorus are additionally removed from the wastewater. For the period of the project implementation, wastewater treatment plants were closed at Rainiai and Ryškėnai, inasmuch as these plants did not provide the sufficient level of wastewater treatment and did not comply with Lithuanian environmental requirements as well as those of the EU.

3-4 tons of pollutants per day are collected at the city wastewater treatment facilities. The sludge collected is treated in the dewatering block (reconstructed in 2011), where the sludge mixed with flocculants is dewatered by means of gravitational boards. The sludge is further dewatered by means of two mechanical belt filter presses KAPLAN KCZ 2000. The capacity of one machine is 15-20 m3/h. Dewatered sludge is stored at the sludge storage sites located on the territory of the plant. Category II sludge obtained can be used as a fertilizer (in the appropriate amounts).

In 2005, new wastewater treatment plant was built in Duseikiai village and the old one located in Luokė village was reconstructed.
